On Days Like This

On days like this
I wake up late
my eyes swollen
for no reason but
an ache is aching
somewhere
There are things to be done
but I already know
I won’t do anything
I would like to have the strength
to knit a scarf, to bake pies,
to brew beer or paint aquarelles
But again
I won’t do anything
My arms feel heavy
so does my head
Time flees like it’s Sunday
I start to write and
I realise that maybe
I’d like to hear the tolling
of the iron bell.
