Goodbye Medium

Hi my dear friends, poets, writers and readers and Medium Staff

This is the time when I finally want to say goodbye to you @Medium

It’s been almost three years where I’ve been reading and writing Poetry, interacting with lovely people and (for about 2 of those years) paying a monthly subscription to Medium.

I’ve received a lot of new followers over the last year: followers that don’t read, like or comment on any of my posts, but that I guess expect me to do so on their own “members only” starred posts.

I follow everyone back as long as they have some written story, of any kind.

So now I have my feed full of self-help articles made with pumped dough, all the same, re-heated content from all the books that were written after Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People”.

And I fall for them every time because I am human and I have my own struggles and I just want to be happy and wise, just like these writers.

Recently, I had to change my card but did not manage to update it to allow for Medium’s payments, so I immediately lost my membership and have realised that whenever I open my Medium app to read things from my feed, almost every post had the asterisk sign (the little star) and I am only allowed to read a few lines, before being kindly reminded that I need to upgrade.

Same thing happens when I try to post comments to other people’s posts, or even to post my own story.

I’ve also tried the waters of the pay-metered wall in the past, as I explain here in my response to ottaross post about shutting down Poets Unlimited.

I believe the monetisation of our writing has really ruined this community, and us poets were the weakest, so I will now try to make sure all my poems are available for all readers, for all it’s worth, it’s the least I can do.

If anyone wants to connect with me, you can find me on Instagram.

I’m sorry to leave, specially now that I finally have received some validation from Medium staff: THEY LIKE ME!!!

THEY LIKE ME!!!
